I’ve taken two adult classes here: oil painting and hand & wheel! What a fabulous community resource, great classes for kids and adults. The teachers that work here are fabulous and help you learn technique and theory while creating your own work.

Highly recommend!

UCAL offers really high-quality instruction at an incredibly affordable price! There are classes in all kinds of painting, drawing, illustration, dance and pottery. Best of all, they have excellent safety procedures in place to keep everyone safe and COVID-19 free! Everyone in the building wears masks, socially distances, and takes part in being considerate of the community. The adult art classes and workshops are very insightful, inspiring, and relaxing. Often, new friendships are found here, and the local Penn and Drexel graduate students add a ton of cross-disciplinary interests to class conversations. Try "Works on Paper", or "The Brush" with Jo Gamel! Great for beginner, advanced and continuing education artists!

I recently completed an adult drawing class here with Jo Gamel. I loved the small class size and the balance between technical training and creative freedom. Masks and social distances are are practiced and class sizes are capped. When the weather allows we drew outside. Classes also available for children, illustration, pottery and painting for all levels.

Took the fall session 2 of Works on Paper with Jo (Jodee) Gamel and its excellent. She is very thorough and goes over basic concepts for those of us who are novices and had so much patience. I appreciated her extensive knowledge of technique and concepts - she explained in depth what we needed to accomplish during our 2 hour class in a way that incentivized us being detailed but not rushed. She always had a new perspective that helped me see the positives of my work. Also completely COVID safe! Everyone is required to wear masks and social distancing is not a problem.

I am looking forward to taking more classes with her at UCAL!

A great place to take a class for adults who want to improve their drawing and painting skills. Jo Gamel is an attentive instructor and talented artist.

Jo taught a graduate-student-friendly course that provided a nice escape from the drudgeries of university course work and TA responsibilities.

UCAL is a very special & busy place! I have taken two adult painting classes and enjoyed the helpful professional instruction from Mary Powers Holt and Jo Gamel. The price for a class is extremely reasonable and you're joining a local organization that works so hard to provide the best experience for students & volunteers. Hot Mugs is an especially fun community event. The exhibitions make UCAL a great spot to see art in the neighborhood.

Love the UC Arts League! A gem in Philly, providing excellent arts education and classes for kids and adults. Classes are taught by working artists who are knowledgeable and very supportive. I've taken pottery, drawing and painting classes and love them all!

So disappointed in this place. Previously was a renter and never had any issues or problems in the past. As of this date I had a signed contract to conduct classes with this business and literally weeks before classes are to begin for my company after I sent an email to meet to confirm a schedule for classes. We receive an email stating that they can no longer accommodate us. Without any explanation or phonemail, which is devastating because we now have to scramble to find a new dance venue to conduct classes before the season starts. This is terrible and nobody should do this to a business, especially a business that host children art programs.
