When my friends and I decided to travel to Cape Cod and Boston, the first thing I wanted to try was surfing. And we almost gave up on it because the first surf school we called never answered the phone or their social media. Sugar Surf Cape Cod, though, answered IMMEDIATELY.

Thanks Katy for the timely responses and wonderful customer service. We wouldn’t have surfed at all if not for you. And BIG THANKS to Mackenzie and her friend/colleague from Rhode Island for the wonderful, wonderful lesson. I already knew the lesson would be great, but even my friends, who I had to DRAG to the lesson kept saying how friendly and reassuring you were. Definitely the highlight of our trip.

To anyone who wants to surf, but is nervous because of recent shark sightings or their (in)ability to swim, don’t worry about it. Somehow, we barely swam, only surfed. My advice: get to the beach, see how many people are in the water already and decide there. You won’t regret it.

Trying surfing was an old wish of mine and finally gave it a chance. I initially chose Sugar Surf because they are women owned and led. After I was running late for my lesson due to my own foibles, I was so upset and gave them a call to let them know I was late. Katey was super kind and understanding and Lena was more than accommodating and shifted my lesson back so I still had the full hour even though it meant it ran right into her next lesson. I had a lot of fun, starting from the ground on up. Lena was helpful in the water, holding the board and coaching. She was encouraging when I had some not great moments and some good ones and gave good insight and pointers. I liked being able to reflect after trying to catch the waves with her. Talking out loud about what I think I could do better the next time and getting her insider advice was super helpful. Thanks again ladies for your flexibility and kindness! I hope to come back for another lesson before the end of the summer.

Love supporting women businesses, particularly one that is so well run. Everyone is incredibly friendly and kind. My 1-on-1 lesson with Jordan was great (even when the swell was less so), but it was still a lot of fun. Observed the other group class next to us, and all the instructors were cheering their students on when they caught a wave. A sign of a good teacher is seeing them being so vested in their students’ success. Would love to come back.
