The Starlite Studio is a magical place to visit. It is a studio with pianos, guitars, candles, stardust, and spectacular views of the downtown area and just an exciting environment study music. The owner, Katie Star, is a magical individual and a wonderful performer. I have know Ms. Star personally and professionally for years and she is such a joy to work with. She is a true musician in the largest sense of that word, meaning, she writes her own songs, sings and plays piano together for her teaching classes and for her engaging performances. Katie has single-handedly created her own teaching school and is very successful. I have heard her give voice and piano lessons and it is such a charm to hear the students engaging with Katie and the music together.
I am very honored to be a friend and colleague of hers. I would highly recommend her for a teacher or a performer.

Though this high rise apartment looks nice, the quality of my trial lesson was poor. I’m an experienced singer that has been with a few voice teachers throughout my life and this “lesson” was my least favorite out of all of my past voice teachers. During my thirty minute trial, the instructor only had me sing for her and talked about her pricing. Never in my life have I had a voice teacher not do their part in an introduction lesson. This trial lesson was like bad marketing. I was thinking of joining her troupe but the pricing of individual lessons cost the same amount as being in the troupe which was a red flag for me. Not only was my experience bad, the vibe that I got from this teacher was off. She’s didn’t make me feel comfortable or welcome. She had her male partner show me to her apartment which was unsettling being that I’m a woman and I thought that it would have been a better idea for the teacher, herself, to greet me downstairs. On top of that, they were late on answering my phone calls when trying to reach her for my trial lesson. Yes, I had to call more than once being that this had already been scheduled. Though the rest of the reviews are five-star, I’d suggest you look for someone elsewhere. This teacher is mostly concerned about her appearance rather than the quality of her work, therefore $100/hr. is not a fair price. Hopefully this review helps you in finding a proper voice teacher. Lastly, if you’re looking into performing burlesque, there are plenty of troupes in the DFW area that are credible and reliable to work with. Please do yourself a favor and move on from this “studio” if you want success in your performance growth.

I didn’t think I could sing, but Katie worked patiently to bring out a voice I didn’t know I had. I highly recommend her classes to anyone looking to improve their singing, public speaking, or even just to get ready for that crazy karaoke night!
