Truly AMAZING service! Above and beyond feels like understating it. Staying almost an hour after closing time, denying the extra money i offered for their troubles insisting on taking only what the job is worth.
The humanity and honesty I felt at this particular shop is truly a rarity. If I did not live 200 miles away I would make this my regular spot.
At the end of the day it still felt like a very reasonable price!

Bloomington has a unique automotive repair shop here; competent mechanics w/ excellent diagnostic skills, the equipment to assist w/ modern automotive repair procedures and a wonderfully kind an honest owner in “Gary” (whom I have known since my return to Btown from L A back in 2009). My wife and I have had a variety of old and new automobiles serviced here over the last decade and a half and have always been very satisfied with both the fair price and most importantly the competent “fix it right the first time” repair ethic. Other shops in town could learn from the “quiet success” or this unsung hero in the Btown auto repair scene; no fanfare and no VIP testimonials are needed here, just your average Bloomingtonian that relies on their vehicle(s) day in and day out to be productive contributors to our local economy. Listen, I have a 17 year old Volkwagon. She's old, I can't put a ton of money in her, and I need her repairs to last. Most American mechanics hate European cars; my last mechanic stopped servicing them after botching my brake installation and ghosting me.

I've been to Southern several times now, and they've fixed everything from those brakes to a loud exhaust to a multi-year mystery of how water was getting inside the car. Took them like an hour. Southern is owned by knowledgeable people who diagnose issues thoroughly and do high quality work.
