If you are making a New Year's Resolution to pick up or improve a musical instrument, or thinking about getting your child musical instrument lessons, look no further than the Ridgewood School of Music! You can have lessons in person or online (and they work great on zoom). My story is that I gave up the trumpet for 42 years and decided to take it up again in 2024. I watched a few of Bobby's YouTube videos and appreciated his knowledge and personality. I signed up for online lessons and worked with Bobby and continue to take lessons now. It's an excellent experience. He honed in on my weaknesses, of which I had / have many 😄, and gave me exercises to specifically address those weaknesses, plus interesting pieces to keep me motivated. In seven months of lessons, I estimate I made about six years (!) of progress on the trumpet, which I attribute to the great coaching I received and continue to receive. I'm always very excited after each lesson because I learn so much that I can use to keep making progress. I hear the other teachers are equally committed, knowledgeable, and nice. So I strongly recommend the Ridgewood School of Music without any reservation or hesitation!!

I am a semi-retired church musician trained in voice primarily , and recently returned to my childhood instrument, the trumpet. I began study remotely (I'm in Texas) with Bobby this past summer. He has been fantastic! Our lessons are packed with great ideas and clear direction. I love the jazz emphasis. Bobby is a gifted and sensitive teacher. I am grateful.

Bobby Spellman, a member of the Ridgewood School of Music, is an active YouTube Channel presenter and music teacher. His YouTube presentations motivated me to pursue his services as a trumpet teacher. I wasn’t disappointed. I have been with him for almost a year. His technique is adaptive to my weak areas. This flexibility enhances my skill level and motivates me to reach his high standards and expectations. My practice routine improves as a result of the insight I gain. I've been playing piano since childhood and music is one of my passions in life. A year ago, I decided to pick up trumpet, an instrument I briefly played in middle school and hadn't touched in 30 years. I found The Ridgewood School of Music on Youtube. When I went for my first in-person lesson and met Bobby things immediately clicked. Bobby was able to adapt a lesson plan that was specifically tailored for me, someone who knew some music theory, but needed to start instrument technique from scratch. Not quite a year later, and we're starting to work on improvising over jazz standards. What impresses me the most about Bobby is that he has an encyclopedic knowledge of jazz trumpet that he can dial into to give me simple clear examples of what we are trying to do and work at my level. Even on my off weeks, I always walk away from lessons refreshed as my technique grows and so does my knowledge of music theory in general (tangentially I've become a better piano player too). It is also really cool that if I forget sometime that we've talked about, I can dial into Bobby's youtube channel for a refresher -- however, that is no substitute for working with him in person. You'll find a warm and welcoming home environment that makes music really enjoyable. Six months in, I increased our lesson frequency because it I find my time with Bobby is some of the best time I've spent with a music teacher in my many years of experience across other instruments and instructors. I can't recommend The Ridgewood School of Music enough - such a gem! Happy to answer any questions.

Ridgewood School of Music is a great place to learn playing jazz as well as improve your current skills. As an amateur jazz trumpet player, I took online lessons with Bobby over zoom sessions. It was very helpful, efficient and improved my improvisation skills. I would recommend this school to every musician who wants to learn jazz improvisation.

My son began teaching himself piano a little over two years ago. We quickly realized that he was taking it quite seriously, in which case, a family member decided to gift him some music lessons from Ridgewood School of Music. Beck (his instructor) came and the rest is history. Beck has been working with our son for two years now, he has learned so much, and has made big advances in his craft through this process. Beck is a trustworthy, reliable, kind, and talented music instructor who has really helped our son hone his skills. Furthermore, Bobby who runs Ridgewood music school is also very kind and helpful—we are glad to have this working relationship and plan to continue for many years to come.

Although I played woodwinds through High School, I started playing trumpet about 18 months ago after I retired. Enter Bobby Spellman in early 2024 via Zoom ( I am in Texas). He continually listens with a keen ear to my playing and constantly evaluates my skills so as to provide perfect exercises and advice to sharpen my playing. He has great patience and humor. I look forward to every lesson. Although his videos are very helpful, the one-on-one lessons have catapulted my abilities.
