awful awful communication!! i was able to get a free class and asked when the class was, i got no response. I asked again a couple days later and got a reply at 2 AM saying “unfortunately the class has passed”. so frustrating!! canceled my membership immediately

QAA has been serving the artists of Quincy, young and old, and teaching artistic skills to newcomers for over 40 years. I have taught figure and portrait sculpture and helped offer a Life Drawing class there for over 20 years. QAA is the single most important supporter of the visual arts in Quincy with its many public exhibits and member gallery It is a vital and vibrant community resource

The QAA and Q-Arts Gallery are the last bastion and best hope for the visual arts scene in Quincy. Quality engaging artwork fine and decorative works as well as excellent crafts. Frequent shows and public events. Wonderful friendly members who make our events fun and memorable. Like arts? looking for something engaging and rewarding to do? Artists Beware. The Art Association sells your information.

Recently I started a small business on Etsy and I was looking for craft fairs to sell in person. I saw that Quincy was going to have an art festival so I signed up to participate.

Very soon afterwards I read some articles on Quincy websites where commenters were voicing that the Art Association was corrupt. That the festival was cancelled last year without fees being returned. Also there was much to indicate from the story that the mayor of Quincy most likely squandered funds for the festival at his own fundraising event then, shortly after, hypocritically cancelled the art festival itself citing covid concerns.

Lately I've been getting junk mail from Quincy businesses under my artist name which I had given to the Art Association. I'm certain they sold my name to local businesses without my permission and from what I've read these people are greedy and unscrupulous off the bat.

So to reiterate, Artists Beware.

Edit: I wrote this review back in 2022 after reading an article about the Artfest. Many participants from the 2021 Artfest openly wrote in the comments that they were cheated from having their fees returned after it was canceled. Several others added very unflattering information about other aspects of the association. All of the complaints were consistent with each other. These people claim to be or have been members.
I live in Quincy and I can say as a fact that I have personally witnessed corruption in the city. I'm not surprised by the many allegations that others claimed about this particular community organization.
I have visited the gallery before. For many years, long before I discovered what others had experienced, I had thought about joining.
Their response to my review boasts about the many events they hold and the gallery but that's not why I wrote this. This is about how they treat the artists who give them their money and their work. They are not commodities. They are people trying to make a living.
To the Art Association: If you want me to change my opinion, be fair to the artists, don't promote your gallery to me to gloss over what appears to be legitimate and major complaints of how you operate.
