I actually started writing and recording my own songs on a Wollensak sound on sound tape recorder, (in the 60's) and then 4 Trk Teac to 8-trk Tascam. Back around 1980 I would take separate outputs out of the 16 x 4 board and twist the wires together to bridge off to a few graphic eq's and just grab the frequencies I wanted and send them to their own dbx 160.. & then back to the tape. Then about 15 years ago I got Cubase and windows 95 with a Layla card. WooHoo! Then when I was about 68 yrs old I stumbled across Puremix and first heard the words, "Good morning children", and it literally changed my life in a lot more ways than just learning the right way to use some of these amazing tools. I mean I'm still a hack in a lot of ways but I'm a much better hack now that I have a better clue about what I'm trying to do than just plugging in a mic, and if it makes noise, trying to make it sound good, or at least cool! And I have a Mac with Pro Tools and Luna and Melodyne etc... that I learned how to "soup up" from Vance Powell, and I can, and do, actually sit here in Berea and create music that sounds pretty darn good (to me) and helps give my life some purpose. It is the inspiration that I'm talking about. I have heard so many of some of the greatest producers and engineers say things on Puremix that echo precisely so many of the thoughts I've had in my own head over the years, and that perspective has been such an enormously valuable asset that helps me to be honest with myself in my quest to get better. I am not operating a commercial studio here and I'm not doing work for other artists. I simply joined Puremix so I could learn how to record my own songs to the best of whatever talent I might have. The best description I have ever heard, (that fits how I have always felt), came from Yo-Yo Ma. "Music, as the pursuit of human expression rather than human perfection.” But to have the ability to communicate that expression the best way possible so other people can experience what you are feeling is where Puremix enters the equation. Every piece of music I have "out there" in the streaming world as myself, or as Six Of One, is the direct result of making the decision to join Puremix. So it is not an exaggeration to say I consider Puremix my co-producer on everything I do musically. But I have also found inspiration philosophically as well, that transfers over to other areas, like how I play and practice bass, how to deal with my own limitations etc. even how to make Ratatouille... So, I get that none of this will matter much to anyone else in the long run, but although I might never make a million, I still feel like, "I'm bound to make a wave".
Oh, and I actually do "live by the tracks!" 🙂

PureMix for me has been the resource that has made the most impact on helping my mixing skill set develop. There has been many major mix sessions posted that have helped shape my current template but more than that it has given me the confidence to deliver mixes that has been rewarded with happy and returning clients. I’m a mixer in the corporate world as well and PureMix has helped me tremendously in my role as the lead Post Production Audio engineer. It is an investment whose ROI has been and continues to bring dividends. I’ve been an active member for quite a few years. And FYI I have looked at other similar resources and so far PureMix has been my chosen well for the resources I need. .

Consider purchasing a subscription to this site to learn the art of sitting in an engineer's chair. It's a shortcut that can significantly reduce your training time. Fab's concise and humorous explanations are a great starting point. But what's even more exciting is the diverse range of mentors, each offering their own unique perspectives. This variety empowers you to find a mentor whose perspective aligns with yours, giving you control over your learning journey. I can't recommend Puremix enough for this empowering teaching and learning experience.

I did a 90 day subscription and I loved it. Really in depth series with some great mixers. my favorite was different top-notch mixers working on the same song so you can see what everybody keeps loses and how they work it. I don’t think they have a trial, but if they did definitely check it out, but if you are interested in learning things on your own, this was a great resource

Super valuable resource. Offers many practical, impactful avenues to improve your skills. Both technically and creatively. All great teachers in the program. I'm in my account weekly and would be daily if I had the time. Love it and best money I've spent on improving my music production skills.

Unless you've been working with these mentors for 10+ years, it's hard to overstate how much this will improve your mixing!

Get a decent set of earphones and/or set up a decent set of monitors and treated room...you'll hear more, learn more.

...and I dig the humor.
