I have been learning the piano for nine months now. (I am the mother of an 11 old son!) I am so grateful for the wonderful learning opportunities that Overture School of Music has given me this year.

I am grateful that Rebecca kept me engaged from the first lesson and greatly assisted me in continuing to learn music.

The faculty is passionate about music education and provides personalized lessons for each student.

Taking piano lessons was the best decision I have made all year. I look forward to continuing to learn and enjoy music in depth.

hello - Both of my children studied piano with Ms. Lo for ~5 years and I'd like to share my perspective as a parent who is also a music teacher - for the past 10 years i have been faculty at Rice University, teaching required undergraduate courses in music theory [scales, harmony, improvisation, sight-reading, etc]. Ms. Lo is a wonderful teacher for both enthusiastic and reluctant beginners. She gracefully achieves a tricky balance between pushing the children to work hard, and still having fun / keeping it light-hearted. She is always pleasant, upbeat, and kind. She is gentle in her critiques, yet aims to coax "musicality" out of even the beginners. Very important to us that she does not push the kids too hard. Even in the simplest pieces, she draws the students' attention to musical details they should focus on, and engages the kids in a discussion of the piece rather than simply telling them what to do. Besides weekly lessons, there are recitals twice per year where all children participate in a one-hour concert. This is so important... for the confidence students gain, for facing their fears, for the recognition of their achievements, for the chance to hear other kids playing a piece they might want to play or a song they remember learning (and the continuity and sense of community and personal growth that this provides), for the practice in sitting quietly/respectfully while one's peers perform. I think the Overture Music School is a great place to start your kids on music lessons! The price is right, the people are highly professional, and your investment in time and money is so worth it. My best tip for success is to require your child to practice regularly 5 days a week (not including lesson day) - even if it' only 5 minutes/day for the smallest children or maybe 15 minutes/day for a reluctant tween. The regularity is crucial, just like wearing a seatbelt or going to school, "it's just something we do in this family." Sure you may have some battles, but if you can stay calm and require the small amount of practicing, it is likely your child will thrive and come to accept the artistic discipline. My youngest confessed "mom i hate practicing piano.... but i secretly love playing piano" and that sums up the power struggle pretty well. We have watched Ms. Lo build up the Overture Music School from scratch over the past several years, a beautiful success story, and our family can attest to her pedagogical wisdom: Her natural gifts make her particularly well suited to this work!

We had a wonderful experience at Overture for piano for my daughter. They were always very open regarding their teachers/ classes and always respond to questions very quickly. The teachers were always taking my daughter's interest into account to help her feel engaged and keep her interested. We only left because school related activities became too hectic but are planning to come back in the near future along with my younger son who will be old enough to start classes. Overture School of Music is a wonderful place to go if you're looking for kind people, encouraging teachers, and a wonderful environment.
Rebecca, the studio owner, is so sweet and was always willing to work with our schedule to make sure lessons happened at a convenient time. Our teacher was Caitlin and she is a really lovely teacher. Caitlin is extremely positive, encouraging, and always knew how to get my "wild child" back on track if she was distracted during lessons. Whenever things got challenging, Caitlin came up with creative ways to teach new concepts and kept my child's interest peaked. She also encouraged creativity and when my child decided she wanted to compose a song she even typed up the song for her to perform at a recital! Overall, I highly recommend this studio if you're looking for a great, positive piano lesson experience.

My daughter has been with Overture School of Music for two years and I have been very pleased with what she has learned and her progress. I played the piano growing up and still do for fun so I had an idea of what type of studio we were looking for based on my personal experience. Overture is a wonderful fit. My overall goal for her is to enjoy music and to play piano as a life skill. Caitlin works so well with her and my daughter enjoys her lessons and looks forward to them. I also appreciate the professionalism of all of the staff as they are organized, easy to communicate with, and accommodating. My son is almost ready to begin lessons and I am excited to have him start at Overture too!

Rebecca has been training my two kids for a year now, and both of them couldn't be more than happy having her as their teacher. I recall the day of their first lesson, and how both of them came home very excited about learning the piano. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for a music teacher for their children.
Her fee is more than fair, and her flexibility and patience is more than adequate.

My son has been taking piano lessons with Rebecca since he was 4 (he is now 7). Over the years he has learned a tremendous amount. She is very qualified and also very kind with her students. She has been able to challenge and guide my son without undue pressure. Even when he doesn’t want to practice piano at home he is always happy to go to his lessons because his teacher is so wonderful.
