My 10 year old was enrolled in a week long camp this summer. She had so much fun and learned a lot. She only had good things to say about camp and loved her director. I was really impressed by what the kids and staff were able to accomplish within 4 days (day 1 is for auditions, roles were assigned in the evening). The production at the end of the week was impressive and included songs and choreography. I’ll be signing up for more weeks next summer!

My 8 year old nephew enrolled in a week-long camp here and had a blast. He’s currently crying because he’s going to miss all the friends he made so much. The staff was very attentive, talented, and kind, and their performance is something our family will treasure for a long time

My daughter really wanted to try acting/theater, so she was very excited when she auditioned for a production at NTPA. However, she got a role that was got pretty much no stage time in the production. She was in one dancing scene that the whole cast was in, and for two other scenes she stood on the side and did nothing. Besides that, she was off stage the whole time. When she initially got casted, I reached out to the director and they said she would be in a lot more dance scenes though she didn’t have a lead/supporting role. However, she and some other members were only put in the scenes mentioned above (she was in another dance scene but they were pulled a week before the performance). I also believe there was favoritism involved in the casting as the director had worked with a lot of cast members before and knew their parents. The worst part is that I had paid at the very beginning ($400 is charged for a production) so we couldn’t even back out, while most people in the cast didn’t pay until the very end or didn’t pay at all. The director and assistant directors were also very strict and rude to her and would schedule practices with very short notice, often with long hours (10-12 hours) and would often do this randomly. My daughter was expected to attend despite having pretty much no stage time. This experience really affected my daughters confidence and happiness as she dedicated so much time to something that she barely even got to be a part of. I also had to pay so much just for my daughter to sit on the side.

I greatly enjoyed the shows I participated in at this theater, however as time went on they became more focused on who donated more, and began to cast based on that. There was a lot of favoritism shown by some directors for students who's parents volunteered and donated money, and those who's parents were busy were often cast as ensemble regardless of skill or experience. The administration there is rarely concerned with anyones opinions if they don't donate any money. Watching the shows is a fun experience.
(Edit in response)
Donors names are put in the playbills, on the walls, and on the rooms based on their donation amount. Directors are definitely aware of the donors.

This is an amazing facility and the number of shows and the quality is outstanding. My family and I drive from Irving to attend performances there and I am always blown away by the talent of the kids and adults. The lighting, sound and seating is excellent in each of their four theaters. I wish I had this when I was a kid! Recently I heard they do birthday parties there for kids and I think there was a birthday group there when I last saw Junie B. Jones. What a COOL idea away from the usual pizza place...

This place is awesome! Our daughter attended several summer camps, after school classes and has been in several plays, she has built a lot of confidence and is loving the theater life. All the directors are amazing and the kids can learn something different from each one of them. We definitely will recommend NTPA for kids to come and do some art or to watch the weekly plays.
