This wasn't a smooth experience and I'd say quite damaging for Hertz reputation. I had a corporate rental at this location and after I picked up the car and left I noticed in the contract that they used the rate that was higher than corporate negotiated rate. It took multiple calls both to Hertz customer service and to this office to get this resolved. Then, few weeks after I returned the car, I was in for another surprise. I used the toll pass for only one day, but they slapped me with the fee of $25.99 for each day of rental adding up to some ridiculous charge. I actually wanted to use my own EZPass, but the EZPass web site was down for maintenance when I started my trip, so could not add the license plate to my tag. I decided that I would pay the surcharge for using the Hertz tag, read the agreement very carefully and it was clear that I would be charged only for the day of usage and only $9.99 per day (which was already high, but I was willing to accept that). Another phone call to Hertz to dispute, only to be directed to PlatePass, a company known for being a ripoff which collects toll charges on Hertz behalf. The rep there immediately said that they will refund the difference for days when toll was not used and reduce the administrative fee to the lower one as stated in the terms. It is obvious what they are doing: They try to rip you off and then hope it goes unnoticed. I guess they love to do it for corporate rentals because they are more likely to just get paid due to large volume of transactions. Needless to say, this borderline organized crime. Quick Google search for PlatePass reveals that there have been multiple lawsuits against them for deceptive charges. I don't understand why Hertz uses them at all when their practices are damaging Hertz reputation.

EDIT: So just as I wrote this, the "response from the owner" appeared and it's obviously a form-letter, generated by a bot, directing me to a generic support web site. So not only is Hertz having substandard service (where is the Hertz from 20 years ago when they actually cared?), but is doing everything to piss off their customers by using generic form-letter responses with absolutely no human in the loop. Did the people who run Hertz actually go to MBA school or did they actually sleep through classes when they taught the importance of actually caring for customers?

The rental car that I booked was Tesla but got a polestar I understand that these are "similar" vehicles per hertz policy but it's way too far from truth. I was okay getting the polestar, as soon as I got the car and I sat in it, I realised the passenger seatbelt was not working. I promptly reported it to the agent who gave me the car, to this the agent said unfortunately we can't do anything now since we are closed but you should go to the Newark airport location they will help you either by replacing the car or by giving you another car as this is a safety hazard . I headed to Newark airport and all the staff from the return check-in people to customer support agents to the manager were extremely rude. They didn't help me at all. They kept saying that I needed to log an incident with the roadside assistance and gave me 2 options 1) close my contract 2) lodge an incident with the roadside assistance team ( even though they were right there). They spoke very rudely without showing any empathy towards the situation that I was in. I was charged ~400 dollars including the security deposit for 200. When I chose option 1 to close my contract they said they would only refund me 30 dollars out of the total this was because they would still charge me for one day worth of rental and an additional fees of returning the car at a different location.
Another issue that I faced was , there was an unknown phone on the car rentals boot.. I reported them that it's not mine and I suspect that it belongs to one of the staff at Morristown location where I picked up the car from . They bluntly told me that they can not do anything about it and I should take it to police.

It was my first and definitely last time that u rented car from hertz . I will most certainly never rent from hertz ever again in the future. They have some serious standards to meet when it comes to customer service , courteousness in the staff being the most basic.

I would give 0 stars if available. I am in a rental now due to an accident. Soon after renting I got a tire pressure low sign, I went to a gas station and a screw in the tire was found. Now the malfunction sign keeps turning on and the radion stays on when I turn off the car. I was given a voucher by Hertz to take the car to a Firestone or Pep boys site. I called Firestone and was told I could come in on Sunday. I went and was told I need to come back on Tuesday. I asked would it be dangerous to drive. He shook his shoulders and said 'could be'
Of couse Hertz is closed.

!!!!!READ BEFORE RENTING!!!!!!!
My boyfriend and I rented a car from this location, they called us the day of and pushed our pick up time back an hour because it needed an oil change and new tire. We looked past that. The car was dirty to begin with, inside and out. Ended up just wiping down on the inside of the car myself. We quickly got home, packed the car and started our trip. As we were driving down the NJ turnpike about to cross state lines, I had gone into the console looking for my chapstick I had quickly thrown in there when we picked up the car. Looking in the console, I noticed there was something sticking out of a little cubby. I turned my head and to my surprise, it was weed in the console. Thinking of the fact that we were taking a road trip, going to cross over multiple state lines, unsure if there is anything else in the vehicle, I quickly called hertz corporation to figure out what I needed to do. Long story short, we had to pull over, call the cops, wait for the cops, call hertz corporation back with a police case number, then travel 45 minutes out of our way to a different hertz location, wait in an hour long line and then waited for a manager(who was so nice and understanding of the negligence of his peers at the Morristown location), was able to get us the the same car. Then had to transfer everything out of the one car and into the other. This whole ordeal took 4 hours. 4 hours out of the first day of our vacation. All of this could have simply been avoided if the vehicle was cleaned. Or just CHECKED if your gonna be lazy. The negligence and carelessness of this establishment could have costed us SO much legal issues if we didn’t find the weed. God forbid if we got pulled over? Or if we kept the car after finding it and there was something else in the car? This LOCATION just willingly put our license at risk, ruined the first 2 days of our trip, all because they are careless and lazy.
We called Morristown the following day, and they really seemed unbothered by our deep concerns. All they were able to offer us was to take a day of our trip off of our bill, which was 96$. The service manager then told us he got the car from Paramus Hertz, and Paramus told him it’s was cleaned. I’ve been renting vehicles from the Paramus hertz location for trips since 2015 and have NEVER had a bad experience.
Stay away if you can.

I should have listened to other people's reviews... My rental was a dirty beat up car, with crumbs in the cup holders and door compartments, and the entire car was loaded with cat or dog hair. Not to mention the interior and seats were all super beat up and damaged. I didn't realize how dirty the inside was until the employee already hurried back inside, and I figured maybe it was bearable to I started to drive. Then once the windows went down the animal hair started flying everywhere. I called the location but was out on hold for 25 min. By the time they answered I was already crossing into New York (I had an appointment I absolutely could not miss a few states away). Their solution was for me to drive back and get a different car. I explained how far I was, and he just repeated himself. After pushing a little (which I hate) he told me I could exchange the car at a different Hertz or get it cleaned myself and they would reimburse me. I called 5 different Hertz locations along the way and they all said they didn't have any cars. So I opted to take some allergy meds and drive with all the windows down until the hair all flew out. Needless to say, I'm never renting from this place again. I paid $80 a day plus fees for a filthy beat up car that gave me an allergic reaction and the staff didn't really seem to care. Do yourself a favor and go to the enterprise car rental not too far down the road.

Be extremely careful renting a car through this Hertz location (probably any other Hertz location too). Days after my rental was returned I was hit with a $130 charge for PlatePass. I did NOT agree to use it and the toll transponder wasn't even in the car at the time of rental. I confirmed this myself and with the employee at the time I picked it up.

Hertz employees don't care and won't do anything to help you. They'll tell you to go through them even though you didn't agree to use this "service". Employee i talked to today tried to say it might be an accidental charge. Seems more like FRAUD to me getting people who don't watch their credit charges carefully.

Got guaranteed a rental, drove 45 minutes to the location, was told the rental could not be given out. Wasted time, money, and now I’m stranded without a vehicle and no backup plan. Thanks guys!
