Fortune Academy has been a game-changer for our son's reading abilities. Since he started attending, we've seen remarkable progress in his reading skills and overall confidence. The individualized attention and tailored curriculum have made a significant difference.

The staff at Fortune Academy are truly wonderful. They are not only highly skilled and knowledgeable but also incredibly supportive and caring. They create a positive and nurturing environment that encourages our son to thrive. We are immensely grateful for their dedication and hard work.

If you're looking for a place that genuinely invests in your child's growth and success, we highly recommend Fortune Academy. It's been a transformative experience for our family!

Like most, I found Fortune when the public school was simply unable to meet my student's need. The small classroom setting and Orton-Gillingham based approach, combined with the community feel, was exactly what was needed. Not only is my child no longer in a panic when presented with a math problem, but actually looks forward to going to school. Her confidence has grown as a result. After a couple of years, when the opportunity presented, I also joined the Fortune staff. I have enjoyed interacting with the kiddos and seeing first hand just how much these teachers genuinely love their job.

Our family is forever grateful to have found Fortune Academy. Our child looks forward to going to school and is thriving! More important than our son's improved academic performance, he is accepted and identifies with his school community who all support and celebrate the unique learning journey of each student.

We moved to Indiana from the DC area after researching OG certified schools in North America. This is now our child's second year and she's excited to go to school. She wants to go to school. She couldn't wait for school to start this year. That's never been the case for her previously. We could not be happier with the curriculum, the activities, the facility and most importantly, the staff. They all have such a passion for what they do, it really does make the school feel like a family.

If you need a new school for your kiddo do not hesitate! If your dyslexic kid has struggled in public school, we all feel you (and have similar stories).

The Fortune Academy is a wonderful school located in Lawrence, IN, on Lawton Loop Drive. It is a small school that is focused on teaching about 80-100 students who have dyslexia. This learning difference affects 1 in 5 people, so having a school like this is very important to start overcoming the challenges as early as possible.
I am a substitute teacher here and have been since about 2011. Fortune Academy is housed in an old church building in Ft. Harrison in Lawrence, which gives it a certain homey feel. The atmosphere is very inviting and friendly and you can tell as soon as you walk in the doors that you are in a good place. Teachers and students alike are friendly and you are treated as an equal no matter who you are. The building is very clean and well kept and everyone really takes pride in keeping it that way. When you enter the front door you are in the main office and will be greeted by a friendly receptionist or maybe a teacher or student helper.
The main difference between Fortune Academy and other schools is that, because they only teach students who have dyslexia, they teach using the Orton-Gillingham approach, which involves hands on learning as well as repetition and other visual and auditory styles. The classrooms are small, which lends to small class sizes--no more than about 5 in the lower school and no more than 9-10 in the high school. This allows teachers to be able to focus more attention on helping students in specific areas and give one-on-one attention where needed. The students learn all of the usual subjects--math, science, social studies, art, music, etc., but they also have daily lessons in Orton-Gillingham (OG), where they focus on learning and practicing letter sounds/blends, spelling, reading and how words are formed (morphology of words). This gives them a good foundation to be able to form thoughts and sharpen skills in writing and reading. I highly recommend this school for any student who struggles with language/word recognition and speech.
