All I can say is good things about Ghanim & his business. On a cross-country trip, we experienced some very bad tire wear on our VW Passat as we approached Iowa City. We cold-called Five Stars Auto from the road on a Saturday afternoon, solely based on Google reviews. He squeezed us into his busy schedule and took care of us knowing we had limited time & hazardous tires. He immediately took care of us when we pulled in & was prompt in identifying the issues. Not knowing what to expect from a “old-timey” location with chickens in the garage, Ghamin set us up with new tires & manually did an alignment to get us safely back on the road east. He was honest, fair, caring, & knowledgeable. He would not let us pay until we test drove the car to ensure we were satisfied. Talk about midwesterner honesty! Thank you Ghanim for your excellent service.

Brought my car in due to engine overheating. He checked my AC, nothing wrong with it and charged me $270 just for inspection. I asked for a receipt and he handed me a receipt that just had the transaction of $270 on it. No explanation of services on receipt. I’m a young female presenting person and I believe he took advantage of me. Not sure why this place has such good reviews.

The owner waited at the shop until almost 11pm to get my van in the shop.

They worked on it the 4th of July. They did everything they could to save me money and make sure I was driving away safely.

Excellent service. Fair price.

They went the extra mile several times to get me on the road in the best way I could afford.

It has been a long day and here is why Five Stars Auto made it infinitely better: After my car needed to be jumped twice today (thank you to the kind people at Coralville Trader Joe’s and the parking lot nearby there!), I went to get the battery checked. A different store said that my battery was bad and needed to be replaced but that they could not do the replacement. (If I did not happen to have a cookie with me, I would have cried at this point). I saw that Five Stars Auto was nearby and open later than other mechanics on a Saturday and called them to see if they could help. He told me to not buy the new battery but to let him check it first. I made my way to his place (missed the turn the first time and he kindly explained the directions over the phone) and finally was met by him at the garage’s door. He checked the battery’s voltage three separate times both on and off and declared it a good battery! He then cleaned the metal, tightened the screws, and explained everything to me so that I could understand what was being done. This man fixed my problem and asked for no payment, saving me almost $300! I highly recommend taking your car to Five Stars Auto if you want someone who cares just as much about the people as they do about your car!
