I can’t speak for the entire school but our experience there as a family for our 3rd grader was terrible. He was bullied by staff and students, we weren’t contacted when things would happen until it was too late and the problem would build up over time. Teachers would be one way in your face and a completely different way when parents would leave the school. Mr. Johnson was pleasant and he did what he could do, which wasn’t much at times because a person is responsible for their our character and conduct; he could only represent for himself and he at least tried to hear our side of things. Our k4 student had caring teachers and learned a lot there. It’s not what we expected as an arts school for our gifted children. They would’ve been better off elsewhere.

You guys are getting real sloppy when it comes to folks kids
Letting them get in other ppl cars without regard letting them walk home without asking the parent letting other ppl pick them up without verification if it’s a true relative or guardian .
SMH I’ve seen it happen multiple times since last year

These are real little humans in a crazy dangerous world .

Also the clock out at exact 3:55 where no one answers the phone anymore if a parent is going to be late and need to notify the staff to let them know they’re going to be a few minutes late or any other issues etc

The phone automatically shuts down at 3:55pm for a school that closes at 4:00pm .

Absolutely a fail for this too be an Art school for talented kids .

The old K4 teacher, Ms. Ceebar was racist and short-tempered. It was said that this particular teacher had made many attempts to put young black boys in special education classes because she was just that racist. This teacher had also created humiliation rituals for children that didn't follow her directions. Even other staff had said that she was conceited, arrogant and pretentious will working there. This staff member ruined the early development of many children during her teaching career at this educational institution.

What a nice school. My children attended this school this past year. I am excited for them to come back this year. I was really impressed with both of my kids teachers. Ms. Knapp and Ms. Jones are wonderful teachers. I am glad that I switched my kids to this school. They're making a lot of improvements and know i would recommend this school to others. There are a lot of unfortunate reviews on here but most are made from prior students. I think that it wasn't nice of them to leave a review like that. The school has turned around a lot. The school is not perfect but I really like the newer staff they have.

Parents: this is not a safe place for your child. This is by far the worst school I have ever seen! I taught as a substitute in MPS for a few years after college. Elm was loud, chaotic, and violent. When class began, students started SCREAMING, swearing, grabbing and breaking supplies, and punching/kicking each other. As soon as I went to confront one student, another would run across the room and turn off the lights. I was an adult man in a room full of children, and I was afraid. The school went on lock down within the hour because other classes were dealing with similar chaos. None of this is okay. I was there one day. I cannot begin to imagine the trauma a student would experience if they attended the full term of elementary school there.

I can not rave more about this school. These teachers give their heart and soul! Ms. Dill and Mrs. Jones are some of the most dedicated teachers I have ever worked with. Considering the poverty and other challenges this school face-they never give up. If I did not mention you in this review I apologize. I think very highly of your staff and praise you all for your efforts. Parents remember they can only do so much. You have to participate in your children's education. I know it's hard but you too cannot give up. When you give up we all lose...

Horrible!!! school has too many bullies, A little boy playing way too much tripped my daughter burst her head, Another little girl bit my daughter super deep over a pencil ✏️ the school board gave my daughter. Teacher's don't care they're very abusive, A teacher " Mr.Jay attacked my 6 yr old daughter, repeatedly slamming her on the ground for no reason. "She said it felt like he burst my heart"💔. The school board and I did call the police. So he was investigated. They have no structure at all. The teachers don't care about the kids education. A teacher told my son, "weather y'all get y'all education or not we're still going to get paid".😯 All in two months. What a year 2016-2017
