I was charged 420.00 for a starter in a 2009 car. The owner feels justified in doing the work, not quoting a price and applying extra labor costs to look at a 3rd break light he could not replace. Furthermore, the light wasnt put back together and I have a plastic piece in the trunk - not attached. The owner states I didnt have an appointment and we spoke in the morning , so it seems the business owner only quotes prices on work when asked. Buyer beware. In addition it is a rebuilt stater, as stated on invoice- researching this part I found he charged nearly double for the starter. I would never recommend this garage.

Update - 4/21/2021
This over priced junk starter died as of yesterday and I am now paying about 145.00 less to replace it at another garage - a brand new starter with a warranty. After several botched jobs at this location- I am a happy customer of Mark's Auto Repair in Freetown. Look him up. Worth it.
Please, avoid this garage as it is a rip off every time - including break pad jobs.

3 , possibly 4 generations of family going to Duartes . His prices are very fair . They are honest and very respectable. I know I can bring my car there and leave with minimal repairs , unlike some shops that will say things need to be fixed when they dont'. I highly reccomend Duarte.

My family as a whole have been going to Duarte's Auto Services since they came to this country. Duarte's had never given a reason for us to take our business somewhere else. i'm the third generation in my family to go to him when I need him. Even when it comes down to problems that doesn't involve them they still go the extra mile for there customer to help. Whether its from oil change to inspections they never fail. I don't recall a time that we haven't been satisfied. Also they are bilingual in both Portuguese and English. In all, Duarte's Auto Services is by far the greatest Auto Services you will find around. they check everything down to the smallest. But then again, wouldn't expect less from a Portuguese business 😉

Duarte and Joe have been working on my cars since I moved to New Bedford years ago. They've always been up front about what needs to go, what can stay, and what I'm looking at for cost. However, they can get bogged down with work sometimes, so emergency repairs may be better taken care of elsewhere. This is an exceptional team of mechanics that undertakes many different types of jobs, and does so with your satisfaction and safety in mind.

To the current person working and running the shop. I recommend opening shops on weekends and hiring new help to expand your business.

I been going to Duarte for over 20 yrs. I moved 45 miles north of New Bedford and when I have something more complicated to diagnose or fix I travel to Duarte's shop because I trust his extensive experience in this business and honesty in dealing with costumers. It's not like you are going to a franchise shop that hires young kits to maximize profit, this guy has been at it for over 30 years.
