Kyla was an excellent caller at our wedding! She organized getting the band and all the sound equipment they needed together and made the square dancing really accessible to everyone at the wedding, including our many guests who had never square danced before. It was such a blast and a really memorable addition to our party. She is well connected to musicians to get a band together for events, this band played beautifully together.

Kyla is one of the most inclusive, versatile callers I've danced to. She can make simple dances fun for experienced dancers, and make complicated dances accessible to beginners. She prioritizes making newcomers feel welcome. Many callers lean more heavily into calling more complicated dances at the expense of novices, while others call only simple dances so everyone feels included. Kyla is somehow able to keep everyone dancing and happy, no matter their experience level.

Kyla called square dances for our wedding this year, and we absolutely loved it! There was a wide variety of dancers of all ages and ranging from absolute beginners to experienced. Everyone loved it! Several people told me afterwards that they usually never end up on the dance floor at weddings, but that they had a blast dancing during Kyla's called squares. Kyla is very thoughtful about her dance choices and how she explains them. She's able to break it down in ways that are simple, straightforward, and inclusive... even our very young dancers were able to follow along!

Kyla is such a wonderful caller! She's able to read the crowd and adjust on the fly. She called a wonderful medley of dances when the crowd got small, it took a low energy dance with 8 people and made it a high-energy silly time! One of my favorite dance experiences to date.

Her calling is calm and firm, able to make the dance accessible to a group of newcomers while engaging more experienced dancers!

I distinctly remember her adjusting the dances she was calling to the types of tunes a band wanted to play. She understands the dancing, calling, and musician side of contra dancing.

I know she calls family dances and dances for all ages. She has a passion for contra and i know she wants to share it with everyone she can.

I can't reccomend Kyla enough!

Kyla is great! I was at an event where I saw her work with mostly new and inexperienced dancers and was really impressed with how she taught clearly as quickly and had all people participating with smiles on their faces. This experience had me curious and excited about Kyla doing a unit on folk dancing with my elementary students. Kyla was excited to work with us and very accommodating as we set up a time for her to come in weekly. My students (aged 8-10, but also we invited some much younger kids who loved it) were reluctant when we first told them about it, but as soon as Kyla started they were laughing and dancing gleefully. It was one of the highlights of the school year last year and we’re hoping to have her come back again!

I’d recommend Kyla highly! I’ve participated in many dances where she’s called and she’s always been engaging and responsive, making sure all dancers are comfortable and included.
