Extremely disappointing. The person at the desk (older lady with shoulder length hair and glasses) was very kind to the lady in front of us. We were wanting to get library cards as my wife and I find it extremely important to support your local library but after we were treated we decided we couldn’t support this one. The moment we walked up to the desk, she didn’t say hi or hello she just asked what we needed and we told her we wanted library cards. She then proceeded to tell us we needed to give her ID, which we did and then looked specifically at me and asked how old I was when I’m well over 25. She had this very rude nonchalant attitude like she didn’t want us there. Listen, we get it. We’re a LGBTQ couple but we do NOT deserve to be treated like we’re an annoyance. She then rolled her eyes and asked who wanted to go first and my wife asked for her ID back and she was rude and didn’t even care why we decided against getting cards. Purely unprofessional and disgusting attitude. Do better.

Beautiful place something for young an old great programs I love the peaceful quiet atmosphere when I come just to think or read or get movies or bring the grand kids

It’s nice. However given the space that the library has- there is only one tiny room in which to sit privately to study, have meetings or otherwise (and people reserve it.) 1 spot for dedicated privacy is not enough for an entire county. Given our dismal internet situation in Harrison County, it would be nice if the library would be more resourceful in allocating sufficient areas for these types of activities.

This is a wonderful library. The only problem is, no one apparently knows what the definition of library means. If you plan to come here to read or study in the piece and quiet, forget it! This building is nothing more than another place of business. It is very unfortunate because, the staff are very nice people and very helpful. Just not a place to focus, read or study.

I've lived in Cynthiana for most of my life. I know a couple of the ladies that work here and they have some of the friendliest people employed here that you will ever meet. They have a decent selection of books, audiobooks, and movies and you can also use the library resources for research and you can partake in inter library loan when you can borrow things from other libraries. I love this library and have since I was a child and my children love it too.

I have lived in a variety of places and visit libraries often so I feel I have some valuable input for those of you interested in visiting this library and especially for those who manage it.

Pros:
-The staff at this library is courteous (even friendly) and most of them, most of the time, are happy to be there and anxious to help.

-The books are limited but which isn’t unusual in a small population but the staff works hard to buy or borrow what you need from other libraries.

-The DVD lending policy is liberal and the collection is extensive for such a small library.

-There are several desktop computers available for browsing and often when I come in there are several that are not in use.

-This library sponsors a variety of events from concerts to crafts. Often these events are held in their spacious meeting hall by the lobby.

-Most of the bigger libraries I have been to are plagued with snoring, odorous, homeless. Fortunately, that doesn’t seem to be an issue here.

-The library is very clean and the men’s bathroom surprisingly so.

Cons:
Unfortunately, the disadvantages to the Harrison County / Cynthiana Public Library are three of the most important to me. As much as Harrison County and the City of Cynthiana collect in taxes one would think there would be more funding for such a valuable community resource.

-First, their wireless broadband access, is pitifully slow. I would love to see them pay for less arts & crafts, children’s gaming tablets, “Playaways”, etc. and instead upgrade their bandwidth. It is so slow that most of the time I can't even use it.

As I write this I am literally unable to post this review because of the slow internet access speeds.

-Second, there are not a lot of good locations to set up one's laptop computer or study quietly. There are three secluded tables in two separate rooms with easy access to an outlet and none in the main area. which brings me to my final complaint.

-Third, this is often a noisy library. They don't have or don't enforce a "quiet" rule and there is no ban on talking loudly on one's cell phone. They really need to establish and enforce a cell phone ban and institute a headphone/earbud policy for the noisy video games and cartoons.

At this moment I am listening to a couple here at the library on speakerphone ordering a pizza or something.

To end on a positive note; I have for the past year and will still use this library several times a week for its quiet study room, DVDs, books, and the like.

One of my favorite spots in town! You can binge watch a favorite series, read a new release or reread an old favorite. Craft classes for young and old alike. If they don't have it they will do their best to get it for you.
