I am a student at Cecilia junior high. As of 2017, December 11, we have few substitutes to take place of the enlarging number of teachers that leave. We are having to use coaches form the high school football team to teach. Hardly ever does a day go by where there is not a fight at this school. Of all parishes and of all schools, please consider helping this school. We need teachers and staff, as the parish apparently can't help get more teachers, as we have had a lack of them for at least a month, and they have decided to spend the school fund on a new gym. The one thing that has prevented me from going home schooled was Mona John, who is an eighth grade E.L.A. teacher who has enough fighting spirit to raise the dead. Whenever I see John I see a hope for this school, the one and only hope for this school. John works her hands to her blood and bone to teach. She has little money, yet supplies the entire class. She is a leader of an iron gavel, frightening, yet respectful. This one woman is the one woman here holding the roof up.

Despite their claims to provide a safe environment for students, as stated in the policy, no such thing exists at Cecilia Jr High. The "zero tolerance for bullying"is a joke. My son was physically assaulted and stabbed with a pencil with no consequences to the students who inflicted the damage to him. After reporting the problems with no help from the school admins, I took it to the school board. Over 170 emails in 4 months were a waste of time since the Superintendent and fellow personnel are incompetent. My son became suicidal, withdrawn and will most likely fail for the year. Instead of protecting my son from the shielded bullies, I was reported to Child protection as a ploy to get me to back down. Never. My son will NOT repeat the 8th grade at a school where his life is in danger. I will sell our home and relocate before losing my son to suicide or homicide due to the neglect of school administrators. Oh and I suggest parents monitor their childs school google accounts which are NOT monitored as told to us when permitting them to create one for them. If you are looking to move here and checking out schools first, please look elsewhere.
