I had been playing guitar for about 3 years, mainly self-taught, when I began taking lessons from Brian Roughton. At that point, my guitar skills were underdeveloped and I had little direction on how to improve my technique. During the first lesson Brian asked me what type of music I was interested in playing, how long I had been playing, and what my expectations were with respect to learning. He also gave me the option of either focusing more on guitar and music theory or guitar techniques. The next few lessons were tough as I was faced with learning the proper techniques while fighting the temptation to revert back to my self-taught approach. With time, though, I began noticing minor improvements which were quickly followed by dramatic improvements in my skill and the quality of music I was producing. I was amazed with the progress I had made over the next 3 years, attributing my success to Brian's remarkable teaching, his dedication to my music education, and his push for perfection. My only regret was my inability to continue taking lessons from him due to career reasons. I know if I had continued with my lessons I could have unleashed my full potential and become an outstanding musician. However, I still retain the skills I was taught and I continue to strive for personal excellence. I HIGHLY recommend lessons from Brian Roughton to all individuals who are interested in learning guitar or perfecting their existing skills.
