We were in Cape Canaveral for a long weekend of sightseeing and try to find nearby parks for exercise and nature. The city has several tucked in residential areas especially nice for residents who live in high rise buildings.

One of these parks is the Banana River Park on the peaceful Indian River Lagoon with views of cruise ships and very close to another gem, Manatee Sanctuary Park. Both are located in a heavily populated area of Cape Canaveral.

Banana River Park is a small park with two access areas for kayaks, a public restroom, playground, picnic tables, and grills.

While there are signs that say "Animals/Pets Prohibited," the sign also say that dogs are permitted on short leash under the control of the handler.

I don't think this park gets a lot of attention by the city although a city truck pulled in while we were there. The sign to the entrance needs to be refreshed.

Small (and somewhat hidden) waterfront Park in Cape Canaveral. Not as large as Manatee Sanctuary Park just to the S, but it does have restrooms, a small playground and rock wall, a putting green, 2 regulation bocce courts, a covered pavilion with several picnic tables, a soccer field, and a kayak launch. OK, maybe it's bigger than it looks.

Though very tiny, the park is a little oasis where one can escape from the busyness of Cape Canaveral. There is a small viewing area from which to watch for manatees, dolphins, jumping fish, etc. There is also a little pathway leading to a very interesting tree. Another item of interest is the unique bench that sits in the middle of the park.
