I've dealt with Akin twice, the 2nd time was an absolute joy! When I brought my car in, I mentioned a couple other concerns I had with the vehicle on top of why it was originally there. Check engine light with the code P0420 (cat code), and my concerns were a misfire under acceleration and my rear passenger brake was sticking/freezing up. I got a call from a gentleman a couple days later, and he was upfront and honest with me about everything, which i personally fully respect! I knew it going to be expensive, but I didn't realize the extent of the damage done to the cat and O2 sensors. He also told me they needed to keep the car longer while waiting for parts, which I was completely fine with. Being told all this ahead of time allowed me to make arrangements to get to work and whatnot. After everything was said and done, my car runs sooo much better!!

I 100% recommend this place! I've worked on my own cars for decades, and only brought my cars to a shop if I didn't have the means to fix something, whether it was lack of knowledge or lack of tools. I have never met such friendly, honest and respectful people in 1 shop. I didn't feel like i was being strung along/taken advantage of. Being a mechanic isn't easy, especially these days, so to find a reputable shop is a breath of fresh air. I will gladly return for any future issues and will recommend friends/family as well

Had a very tough issue where my one of my car tires was smoking. Turned out when I previously did my brake job a week prior to first coming here, it wasn't fully done, and actually very poorly done. Mike (the owner) was very helpful and actually was willing to see me and check the issue out even though they usually book two months in advance.

Needless to say he quickly recognized the issue without even touching the car, and after I had the issue 'fixed' at the other place I decided to simply do it all over again but this time with the people at Akin (went to the previous place about 4x and they couldn't figure out what was wrong with it) And has been working fine.

On top of that, anytime I have an issue or worry, Mike is always helpful and allows me to quickly come in whenever he has the time for it.

So far so great, don't plan on going anywhere else, even if I have to drive far to get here

So first let me say that I'm the daughter of a mechanic so I grew up in garages and know the trade. I'm to this area, moved from eastern mass, and I am looking for a decent, honest mechanic for all our personal and work vehicles. My brother (retired mechanic) recommend I try Akin, so even though they told me that they were booking out almost 2 full months, i was willing to wait in hopes of securing a good mechanic.
I called Akin today to see if I could get my 2001 Honda CR-V in at some point to replace the struts. Yeah its an old car but its a work vehicle. I had already bought the 4 quick struts months ago because I had planned on doing them myself but I got busy (I own and operate a pavement maintenance company) and it got put on the back burner. I told them that I had the parts and yes, I understand that they can't warranty customer supplied parts, no problem. The woman on the phone said that he (the owner) likes to check the parts out and make sure they're quality before agreeing to install them. I told her that wasn't a problem, and that I had done my research to make sure i got the best ones, I don't cheap out on car parts. She said she'd talk to the owner and call me back. Less than a hour goes by and a different woman calls me back and says, "yeah, sorry, he's going to have to pass"....... I said " ooo-kayyy? She says, "yeah, it's just not something that he's interested in working on at this time." I was so taken back by the arrogance of the statement that all I could utter was a sarcastic, "Awesome! Hey, thanks!" I've never had a mechanic tell me that they're "not interested" in working on a vehicle. I'm sorry that its an older car and not a Ferrari. Actually, jokes on them because they just lost the potential business on all our vehicles which include; a Mercedes SL600, a $80,000 Ford Explorer, Our F350 & Izusu NPR work trucks, two Honda personnel vehicles, and my brothers BMW and his other vehicles will no longer be serviced by Akin either. You may want to rethink your business practices if you're in the habit of snubbing your nose up at older vehicles. Wiser people will tell you, you never know who you're dealing with and what opportunities you're screwing yourself out of.
Bottom line: Don't judge a person by their Honda.

Mike and his guys are great at what they do. Extremely well equipped to take care of your car and probably the most knowledgeable mechanic in New England . The wait times may be a bit long, that's because they are "THAT GOOD" The dealers even bring their most difficult problems to Mike and he gets it done The shop is immaculate and that is how he treats your vehicle.

This is a quality place. You are given great care for your vehicle. Mechanics are honest & complete. They always do there best to use actual vehicle replacement parts and not generic parts. Mike, the owner, always is honest and customer caring. You will get quality work at an honest price!
