I had a problem with my Volkswagen Beetle with lights going on on my dashboard. Went to AFA on the recommendation of my Repair guy because it was a foreign car he didn't want to tackle the programing. I was very happy with the Service and the way it was handled. I was informed with all the goings on, no surprises, work or price wise. You kept me up to date with what you were doing and what it would cost before you did any work. It was greatly appreciated, thanks to you all and you can be assured that you will be recommended for Foreign car Service.

I have been taking my cars to Amesbury Foreign Auto since moving to the area in 2004. Over this twenty-year span, AFA has maintained six different vehicles for me.

Amesbury Foreign Auto has always been honest, friendly, and highly competent, and I hold them in the highest regard. They are careful to point out maintenance that can be deferred versus repairs that should not be delayed, and they don't hesitate to refer me to other vendors if specialty work can be performed more economically elsewhere.

For example, AFA recently referred me to Lou's custom exhaust in Kingston, NH for a welded exhaust repair, because doing so would prevent having to replace the catalytic converter on the car as well. This saved me a great deal of money, but deprived AFA of being able to do the job themselves. This sort of consideration from AFA is what I have come to expect over the years.

For over two decades Amesbury Foreign Auto has provided me with excellent service, and I recommend them enthusiastically and without reservation.

I hate to tarnish AFAs mostly positive ratings with a negative one, but I'm tired of predatory up selling practices by mechanics. I was told that I had 2mm left on the pads of my front brakes, so they needed to be replaced along with the rotors. This was going to cost $800 through them so I decided I'd just do it myself as I've done many times before. Trusting the mechanic, I went out and bought all the supplies to do the job, only to find way more pad left when I took the wheels off than what was stated. As you can see from the photo, the wear indicator towards the left which contacts the rotor and squeals when you need new pads is way below the thickness of the pad. Unfortunately this has made me question the other repairs AFA listed out as "urgently needed", so I'll be getting a second opinion on those.

So if you're told by AFA (or any mechanic for that matter) that something needs to be done on your car, always get proof, especially when it's something that can be easily measured like brake pads.

How can I resist being the 100th reviewer for AFA Auto Repair. This place has been an Amesbury staple for years and is only getting better. In speaking with Ben, I get the impression that he is honest, intelligent, and very hard working. Would recommend AFA to anyone looking for A+ hospitality for their vehicle.

AFA auto is one the best mechanics in the area of Amesbury. Staff is very attentive . I had a couple of emergencies with my vehicles and in each instances they were able to help me without no questions.

I was given a repair estimate by a local VW dealership, I went to Amesbury Foreign Auto to verify that these repairs were necessary. They found 2 other issues that the dealership missed. They did an excellent job taking care of the 4 issues instead of 2 and still did it for less than the cost of the dealership quoted. I am very happy with their service. Will not hesitate to use them again.
