Espacio Smug.

I’ve been taking classes here for 7 years and it is absolutely my favorite place in NYC. I’m mostly a trapeze girl and find it to be the greatest workout while also being a creative outlet with a great community. The teachers are kind and thoughtful but push me to do my best always. And Ben at the front desk is the best!!

The staff here is rude, unhelpful, and unprofessional. I signed up for a beginner class to try something new, but the experience was awful. The instructor rushed through everything, even the basic stretches, without considering that beginners might need extra guidance.

When we started working on the silks, I was trying to do the form after the instructor (pale woman with bright red hair) showed us how to do it but I kept failing at it and the instructor rudely was like “try listening to my instructions maybe.” Later, my sister tried to help me with a form after she did it successfully (since the instructor was helping another student), and the instructor passive-aggressively said, “I’m the teacher; I can teach her.” The attitude was so off-putting, I was so turned off 15 minutes into the class and was ready to leave.

Our friend accidentally signed up for an intermediate class instead of a beginner class. They wouldn’t let her participate because she hadn’t taken three beginner classes yet (which is understandable), but they told her she would be able to do a beginner class on another day. She emailed them a couple days later explaining the situation, and they refused to accommodate her or offer any solution. So basically, they just kept her money. Ridiculous and unethical.

This place is unwelcoming and doesn’t care about its customers. Save your time and money—don’t bother coming here.

It was such a good experience. I signed up for a beginners class with Joshua. Not only it was fun, but the safe space that Joshua created, made me feel more at ease to try something that I made so many mistakes on and barely had the strength to do but yet it was so fun, peaceful and easy to understand. I wanted to try it out to know if this is something I’d want to commit to and after this experience I’d def want to. I appreciate Joshua for making the class engaging and fun and easy to soak in. It was nothing but good vibes

I had a very disappointing experience with Aerial Arts NYC, and I want to share my story so others can make an informed decision.

I accidentally signed up for an Intermediate class when I intended to join a Beginner class. I immediately acknowledged my mistake and reached out to their staff, hoping for a reschedule or credit since I didn’t even participate in the class. Instead of handling the situation professionally, their responses were dismissive, condescending, and manipulative.

They claimed I intentionally signed up for the wrong class to join friends, but I didn’t even know most of the people in the Beginner class. It felt like they were trying to shift blame entirely onto me instead of acknowledging that mistakes can happen. Their tone in emails was rude, and their so-called "compromise" was to pressure me into buying a five-class package—something completely unreasonable given I hadn’t even had a chance to experience a proper class.

While sitting out and watching my friends participate, I overheard passive-aggressive comments made by the instructor towards my friends, who were simply trying something new. It was gross and upsetting to watch such unprofessional behavior from someone meant to encourage and guide students.

It’s clear they’re more focused on making money than creating a welcoming and accommodating environment for students. The staff’s attitude is unprofessional, and their refusal to offer any reasonable resolution shows a complete lack of care for their customers.

If you’re considering trying Aerial Arts NYC, be prepared for strict, inflexible policies and an unwillingness to work with you, even in good faith. I wouldn’t recommend this studio to anyone.

Instead, I recommend checking out these nearby studios that provide better customer service and a more respectful approach:

^ Both locations are half the price than this location. I don't understand why I chose to go to this place. I wish I had done better research.

In response to the owner:

Seeing such a defensive and condescending response from Aerial Arts NYC is disappointing, but not surprising. Instead of taking accountability or attempting to acknowledge a different perspective, they’ve chosen to twist the situation, attack my character, and make unfounded assumptions about my intentions.

Here’s what actually happened: The front desk staff (who was actually very nice) asked if I had done aerial yoga before when we realized I had signed up for the wrong class. I said yes because I knew my skill level and felt comfortable. She then informed me that I was not allowed to participate in the intermediate class without first taking the beginner class. Since I was really just there to support my friends, I was fine with that. She even told me that this kind of mix-up happens sometimes and that I should email the studio to reschedule. However, when I did, they completely changed the story and were dismissive and rude in their responses. Even now they're saying we were angry and demanding which isn't what happened at all lol.

This response from the studio only confirms what we experienced—an unprofessional, defensive attitude toward customers rather than any willingness to engage respectfully.

A close friend and I went for a beginner Lyra class last night that was taught by Kate. The front desk was really nice considering we were very nervous to take the class. We were assured we'd be fine. They have limited space so plenty of individual attention. If you do have questions they correspond very fast via email. Loved it here and will be back ASAP.

Dillan is really awesome with challenging beginner trapeze class - good conditioning/intro in trapeze and helps all the students get the most out of the class. Would definitely come back whenever I’m in NYC! 🙂

Studio is clean and class offered good conditioning with a casual instruction style and adaptations for students with a bit more experience.

Thanks for the great experience!!
