I remember hearing the story years ago about how the resting place of so many ppls family members were being neglected, disturbed and destroyed. It was heart breaking. Now I'm doing my ancestry and found out my great great grandmother and likely my great great great grandmother were buried there. Its a lot more personal now. The history of how this black cemetery was done was just horrible.

I would like to volunteer to help when I can. If anybody knows of any volunteer opportunities for this cemetery please email me:

My grandmother is buried there, she passed away in 1988 before it went under. Unfortunately she didn't have tombstone, only a big wooden cross as her marker. RIP Catherine Shamlin. Totally baffled that nobody in the city had enough money or concern to tak care of the place better. The City of Berkeley has it now and the place still abandoned.

Visitor in area and I was baffled why only part of this cemetery is mowed. Read other reviews and now know why but still don’t understand it.

I see alot of people complaining about the condition of this historical black cemetery but few do anything about it. Funny thing is they do have a volunteer group that are set up specifically for this cemetery as well as volunteers that cut the grass here out of thier own pocket. Funny thing is almost all of the volunteers are white people. You would think there would be a larger presence of the people that make up the cemetery but sadly this is not true.

1983 ~10 year old Jane Doe found headless in basement of 5635 CLEMENS Ave. That precious child, still unidentified, is buried somewhere in Washington Park Cemetery.
A small donated stone reportedly says "....Saddened hearts were healed... pain of life is over
...".

Has anyone seen this grave or know where to find it?

Awful place Guys go on a dry day. keep in mind that a lot of graves has been moved. Update to this request section 15 and 14 has been moved to surrounding cemeteries because of the airport and metro link expansion. Found my grandmother at a nearby cemetery. St Louis city have a list of the graves that was relocated.

This place is abandon & the city is barely servicing it since the owner committed suicide for mis-handling funds back in the 1980s-90s. My father been buried there since 1981. Overgrown vegetation, toppled head stones, some missing. I try to keep around my dad's grave cut. But it's others

Went to visit my grandmother in lot 11 and was absolutely heartbroken. So many trees overgrown and grown close together and couldn't find her. Just sickening how this someone could do this. Sad to know that even in death still no respect.
