Rustin Rumfelt and his company, Beyond Landscaping, is quite “beyond belief.” I hate that I’m forced to give him a star. What he needs is a crash course in how to satisfy customers.

I wouldn’t have reviewed his company but after he asked me (via email) to “never call him again,” I figured I’d do him one better and warn those in the area to avoid his services at all costs.

Here’s the breakdown:

I bought a home and needed a landscaper to take care of repairing two 24-foot diameter areas where the previous owner had removed above ground pools. it’s simple work. You’re bringing a bobcat and dump truck, some clean dirt and seed, and one laborer, and you can knock it out in a day.

The estimator that met me at my property was kind, courteous and a consummate professional. He was very responsive via email and did a great job.

I wanted the work done before memorial day but completely understood that we were in a rainy season and wasn’t in a rush. The last thing I wanted was to have to redo his work or have him tear up my yard. I’m not a picky guy. I work in the construction industry.

Rustin’s employee arrived without notice and was working in my drenched yard. My wife had to call me and inform me that they were tearing up the yard, only after his employee knocked on my back door to tell her that he got his backhoe stuck in my yard due to how wet it was. I work out of state and asked Rumfelt to inform me when they were coming.

They left big ruts, damaged my gray waterline for my sump pump, and sunk their backhoe in my yard.

Rustin came out to help him get unstuck and informed his employee to keep going knowing that they would continue to damage my yard. It was a nice touch when they used their dump truck to pull him out.

Then his employee left my property a mess and I received no call from anyone and no word that he was leaving. I had to call their office and ask about the status and about 20 minutes later Rustin, the owner, arrived at my home.

I walked up to him and he asked how my day was going and I told him, “I’ve had better days,” and explained my concerns.

He was unreasonable and rude, told me that he did not have to come back to finish the work, and walked to his truck after turning his back on me and our conversation. I tried to explain to him that I work for a pipeline company and that we would never leave someone’s yard like this after completing our work. His arrogant response was, “Good for you...I’m glad you work for a company like that!”

The estimate was about $1600 for a days’ work. I guess the old adage is true and you get what you pay for.

He then sent someone by my house who attempted to roll my yard but once again, they showed up without notice. They’re attempts didn’t help much as it was still too wet to do any good.

I sent Rustin an email telling him about the poor work and I still owed him $600 of the $1600 (photos attached). His response was to forget the remaining balance and to never call him again!

I recommend that you spend a little more money and avoid this low-quality, arrogant and irresponsible company.

I now have to bring in a tiller and redo half of what they did, along with seeding and strawing the entire area. I just about break my teeth now every time I mow the yard. I have ruts that are 18 inches deep in my yard.

Do yourself a favor and call someone else.

Maybe Rustin should consider his company’s name sake and do something “beyond landscaping,” because they definitely haven’t figured that part of it out.
