Very small and interesting museum ran by volunteers. Nice staff. The $5 “train ride” is really a walking tour by a very knowledgeable narrator.
Got to see many old engines and cars from 100 years ago and learn about how things work back then.

We took past the peak no Thu train, which this year was actually at the peak of colors. The views were better than I expected from reading reviews. However you need to sit on the right side of the train when it goes out. We switched sides on the way back and it was less attractive. Yes, there were some delapedated back yards, and tossed away mattresses but not all the time. The train ride is 45 minutes.the staff is friendly and informative if you ask questions, but there was no history lessons. The train was a 1953 commuter train, so not historic or particularly interesting but clean and comfortable. The train was just one car and almost full.

The drive to Lenox station was about 2 hours which was fine because the sites and scenery was beautiful. Station and train was clean and in excellent condition considering the train was 100 years old. The staff is extremely nice. Very knowledgeable. And the staff is all volunteer. The reason I gave them a 3 star was because it said it was an hour ride. You ride for a half hour, and when you reach the destination, the train then goes in reverse back the same way you came. You are allowed to swap seats and sit on the opposite side for a different view. You pretty much drive by industrial areas, nothing real scenic. But the idea of riding the train is really nice. It gives you an idea of whether you could handle taking a longer train ride. They also handed out snacks and small bottles of water. And on the return ride they then handed out snacks again. No charge for any of these. The experience was nice, train was extremely clean, the staff was friendly and professional. The ride was just too short. If it was longer, it would've been great

Staff were nice, got to see some things and take photos. Only complaint I have is that there were wasps flying around in the storage yard (but luckily nobody was stung). The museum is still a work in progress, and It's a safe assumption that there's a lot of work to do. Good place to go if you want to see an FL9 up close

Good fun, a smooth ride, and friendly, knowledgeable volunteers.
Even on a grey, misty day in late October the Berkshire Scenic has plenty to offer and is worth a trip.
We’ve been to many scenic railways and each has its own charm. The Berkshire is no exception.
It is a smooth ride with great views of the nearby mountains and surrounding towns.
The conductors were very friendly and shared a bit of the story of the railway and the train we were riding.
Ask for the optional trip guide. It includes the backstory and a helpful history of many sites along the way.

Great train ride. I was there for a convention and a great conversation with train staff. Great historic equipment and a scenic ride.

Sorry to have to write this but this was by far the worst trip ever. We drove 2 hours for a hour “scenic - Fall Foliage” train ride and what we saw were people’s back yards, propane tanks and a huge cemetery. The only excitement was watching the crossing guard drive to each cross way to stop traffic as we passed and met a nice couple. We occupied our time chatting as did everyone else on the train. Would never recommend or do again. Very disappointed.
