We have been at Backstage for three years now and I can see a positive 180 in the atmosphere since the new owners have taken over. My daughter is on Showtroupe and she has grown as a dancer and made lifetime friendships.

We have enrolled our other daughter into classes because of the positive changes happening in the studio.

I highly recommend checking them out.

My daughter is 16 and has attended backstage since she was 6yrs old. Things have definitely changed throughout the year's. The studio has always had great coaches. Yes there is now new management and they have removed some of the unfair and bias traditions that were only allow for specific dancers. Now there are more opportunities no room for any dancer to feel superior. Backstage dance studio is now truly upholding the uplifting family, supportive vibe it use to have when we originally started. Cheers to a new year of growth and great dance!

Absolutely love Backstage Dance Studio! My son took a ballet & tap 5-7 combo class with Ms Mary and a Hip Hop Class 5-7 yr olds with Ms Lindsay S. last year and had a wonderful time! Things of note: Studio has 5 rooms for classes, 3 bathrooms… a dressing room as well as each dance room has a camera that shows your dancer in real time and you can watch them from the waiting area in the front lobby.

My daughter has been dancing here for 5 years, and for the last 2 years took 4 classes at once. I was impressed with how they handled the pandemic last year. They took things seriously. It's now almost September 2021, and the Delta variant is raging amongst kids. They have changed their mask rule to masks being optional for ALL ages - not just those 12+ who are vaccinated. Why? Because "some parents don't want their kids wearing masks." My husband is a 2-time cancer survivor, and I want him around for a while. I'd also like my daughter to remain healthy, so sorry, but we had to unenroll her. She is heartbroken, and we are heartbroken. They say they follow the governor in terms of masking, but Howard County Public Schools is being smart and requiring masking this year, so we hoped Backstage would as well. Unfortunately, they don't care. We will be taking our business elsewhere and putting our daughter into activities where owners make health and safety the #1 priority.

My daughters have been dancing at Backstage for 7 years now. They've participated in rec classes, and one joined the show troupe a few years ago. The teachers are amazing! Their dancers are extremely talented. We've all gained such wonderful friends here!

Danced at Backstage since I was about 4, so did my now 20 year old sister. Recently quit because of the completely unprofessional behavior that goes on, especially on the Show Troupe. The staff chooses obvious favorites, which would be totally fine. I get that some teachers have connections with some students. However, its not okay when staff members converse and gossip with students about their peers. They have amazing choreographers, and the student’s behaviors are constantly kept in check by staff members. They fail to monitor and punish the wrongful behavior of their own staff and the actions they take outside of the studio as harshly as they do the students.

The owner, and Lana are unprofessional and do not know what it means to have customer service skills. They are bad listeners and will lie each week telling you things will change and get better so that you don’t pull your kids out.
I’m amazed they have been in business this long. Classes are always cut short and children never get a full 30 minutes of lessons due to the teacher always starting class late. Arianna who teaches hip hop is a teenager who has no clue what she is doing. My kids are have learned nothing since they have started there. Nothing to show after 4 months of paying for classes. Save your money and don’t waste your time. These people are thieves.

Legitimately a great place. All of the staff/instructors are great people. They do not try to swindle you out of money, and are extremely transparent about class cost and length. Definitely worth checking this place out.
