I’ve been involved with Maine Arts for many years, in many ways.
My son is a 2023 graduate, and is now studying music composition in college. As a Maine Arts student, he was given unique opportunities he couldn’t have had anywhere else in Maine. He sang in a Christmas concert at Carnegie Hall, he arranged music, he conducted the school chorus, and he performed lots of original pieces at school recitals.
My daughter is now a Freshman on the visual arts pathway. She’s also taking piano lab and beginner strings.
Last year, I began teaching part time at Maine Arts, and am now there full time. I quickly became enamored with the artsy, unique, lovely students, and knew this is where I’d like to spend my days.
I am also thrilled to be coaching MeAA’s first sports team…Mountain Biking. We have over 25 kids on the team! Who says kids can’t be artsy and sporty? MEAA kids can be both.
What a unique place for kids to grow. The staff is top notch, and your kid will be accepted, loved, and cared for, exactly as they are by the kindest peers they’ll ever know ?

This place is truly amazing. I came from 3 different public high schools before starting my senior year here. And the place has been everything and more. I can be comfortable enough to be myself and I have made many many friends from all grade levels. The teachers are truly amazing and help you with however you can. My friends are truly u deranging and will never judge me badly. Everyone is cool with eachother and you form close connections with everyone. Even the janitors. The person in this picture is Berry. They are pretty cool and are always there to help. I see them everyday and we always laugh and have an amazing time.

This will be my 4th yer of teaching art at Maine Arts Academy and joining the school was one of the best decisions I ever made. the students are a wonderful group to be around. Full of life, energy, and a willingness to learn. Watching them grow as artists is an experience not many get to see. The other teachers are a joy to be around. We often trade ideas and thoughts on how to improve as a unit while making sure the students get a quality education. As far as the administration, they treat us all as equals and you never feel as if you working for them, but with them. They listen to the staff and students and will make changes if it is for the good of the school. I cannot think of any other place I'd rather be and teaching at. Thank you for having me!

I absolutely love working here! This school has allowed me to grow as an educator, and it embraces my philosophy of teaching. I am currently in my 8th year at Maine Arts Academy, and it has been an honor and privilege to watch this charter school continue to progress in a positive manner. We strive to make connections with all of our students, and the staff works diligently to create an atmosphere conducive to learning. I firmly believe this school cares as much about the traditional forms of education as it does in fostering and facilitating the growth of its students, so that they may learn how to become responsible, compassionate, and productive members of society after their high school tenure.

I went to this school for the entire of my high school years. This was one of the largest mistakes in my life. The school not only gave me a worthless education but consistently proved there lack of care for students and faculty. My grades in high school were impressive graduating with a 4.08 GPA but that’s only because the assignment and work were not high school levels. Multiple times teachers were fired or quit half way through the school year leaving the class to all pass that year without a teacher for months. Id advise all students, family’s and parents if considering this school for your child turn away

This school had the potential to be great. Every single one of us enrolled in the hopes of getting a good education in the arts, as well as traditional subjects. The way that it has gone in a downward spiral since day one truly saddens me. There are many aspects of this school that have failed me and many other alumni. First off, the education is sub par. There are many subjects that I and many other people struggle with in college because they could keep a teacher long enough to teach the proper material. My chemistry teacher left not long into the semester, and all I learned from the new one was the chemical composition of different drugs, no actual chemistry. The way that the administration dealt with students and teachers was unprofessional and caused major issues for a lot of people. Teachers were let go in terrible ways, such as letting a teacher go by sending him a letter saying he was not welcome back, less than a month before the school year started. Gaslighting other teachers when they spoke up, and berating students when they voiced concerns. Then there is the way that they are blocking people who are voicing concerns about the new middle school opening up. Myself along with at least 20 other alumni, have tried to let them know how we have been dealing with the failure of the school but we are being blocked and silenced. This is not a new trend. Heather King and fellow administrators have done this since I started there in 2019. They don’t know how to run a high school properly, and now middle schoolers will be subjected to the treatment that we did, but on a much worse scale. I am begging and hoping that parents will read these reviews before they start to send their children there, because the front that the school is putting up is false in every aspect. A majority of the people there are just in it for the money and publicity. Not all of them are bad, Jasen Richardson continues to be one of my favorite teachers of all time, but the few cannot begin to overcome the many people who are just there to get noticed. Please find other options for your kids, I promise that this is not worth it.

First and foremost, most alumni who went to this high school can agree that going to a public charter school like Maine Arts Academy had its perks. More accommodation for students who struggle socially, mentally, etc. I personally transferred to this school my sophomore year and graduated this past June. My time at this school was a rollercoaster to say the least. Some teachers were amazing and absolutely had their hearts in the right place, while others really missed the mark and were even predatory. Another issue I personally had with this school was the bathroom situation. There is no reason male and female students should ever be allowed to go into bathrooms of the opposite sex and invade their private spaces. This school does not care about the safety and well-being of their students when it comes to this and it was truly disturbing going into the bathroom and more often then not there being a male in there (who yes had male genitalia and identified as a male) and staff did nothing about it as they were more concerned with “inclusion.” On the flip side I did get the accommodations I needed from this establishment, though i’m sure there are many students who did not. The issue with this school is that they are still learning how to properly establish themselves as a professional school environment. But I still stand my ground that there is no excuse for predators to be hired in a space where children are daily, and that students may be preyed on by other students due to their past neglect of properly gendered bathroom facilities.
