Speaking on my personal experience. My dad referred me to "Monarchs" on Limaburg Rd. In Burlington, KY. For machine work on a crank and cylinder head back in Winter 2021. Upon finding out Monarchs is out of business these days, I was told Bluegrass Diesel up the street bought their old equipment and could do the work.

Brought my Crankshaft and Cylinder Head to Bluegrass Diesel to have the crank grinded/turned and the cylinder head cleaned, decked, and a valve job with new seals. They finished the head rather quickly but were very busy turning cranks so it took a couple weeks past the initial expectation.

I Put the engine together with new Bearings they ordered for me to match grind of the crank. And currently have over 30,000 miles on the rebuild.

I went in knowing exactly what I wanted and what I expected for a reasonable price. Based on that experience, I will likely return for more machine work when needed.

They told me it was one thing and ended up being something completely different. Would suggest to go somewhere else, that knows what they're doing.

Take your vehicle elsewhere. On 11/25/2020 I took my truck over for overheating and significant radiator fluid loss as well as window not operating. They had it for over a week and said it was the water pump, which they replaced. This truck is not my daily driver, and I rarely drive it. After a week I noticed that it still had the same problem, so I took it back. They implied that I was overfilling the radiator because the reservoir was overfilled. They also said that it was fine and could not see a problem. I asked about the wiring harness for the window, which they had never ordered, and they went ahead and fixed it (why didn't they fix it the first time?). I took the truck back and put it in storage for the winter. I drove the truck again on a long trip on 5/26/2021, where it overheated and left me stranded just off the highway far from home. I took the truck to Urb's Garage where it received a proper diagnosis of blown head gasket. The water pump had to be replaced again. For their misdiagnosis and inappropriate replacement of the water pump, I asked them for a refund for the water pump. At least that would have helped offset the cost of the head gasket and relieved the frustration, inconvenience, and stress of being stranded in the middle of the night far from home. They refused the refund, citing that too long a period elapsed and that I could have done something to the truck. They also said that I failed to give them a chance to make it right. Which I did, twice. At that time, my trust in their competence was exceptionally low. Why would I take it to them a third time? I also noticed that the hydraulic hood lifts no longer worked either. Instead of gaining a positive review and future work opportunities, they gained a bad review, possibly costing them business in the future. They also lost an opportunity to ever work on my truck again, another loss of income which could be incredibly significant over the course of the truck’s lifetime. Their refusal to make a concession has cost them more than a small refund.

On March 22, 2021, I took my heads to be milled, and a “proper” inspection was done. After spending countless hours and money on replacing my head gaskets, 4 months later, I notice coolant is leaking somewhere into my engine and steaming it out the exhaust. I have multiple diesel mechanics diagnose and look for the problem to determine that the injector cups/sleeves(checked and pressure tested supposedly) have come unseated and are leaking coolant into my engine. I called to see about getting some payment for this costly replacement job and was told that the work performed on my truck was shotty and that they did everything perfectly, and the injector cups are not their problem. I was polite and calm and never once got upset, I said this would cost me a lot of money to fix, and I would like to see some compensation for the damage that could have been avoided if the sleeves didn’t fail. I was then told, “Good luck.” Not to mention it was by the owner of the company. So, “good luck” to you if you provide them with any of your business.

Sincerely,
One highly agitated customer who will never return and will never recommend or tell a soul about this business.

GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! Came here with one problem, left with a new one. After paying over $2,000 and being stranded for three days I finally got my vehicle back only to find upon driving out of the parking lot that my power steering pump was now acting up. This was not even remotely an issue when I bought it in.

The impatient condescending head mechanic, I believe his name was Paul, immediately became defensive and tried to say that they had nothing to do with the power steering pump mysteriously going bad while the vehicle was in their care. Tell me then, what are the odds that you happen to work on parts of my engine that are directly next to the power steering pump and suddenly out of nowhere the pump goes bad? And to then say you didn't notice the steering wheel violently shaking while on the final test drive is just a blatant lie. You just hoped I wouldn't notice, which would be borderline impossible not to. He acted as though I was a bother and an inconvenience to him for bringing up this new issue that they caused in the hope that they'd make it right. They didn't.

The vehicle was then taken to the back and hastily looked over before offering me no compensation or solution to my brand new issue, which they had undoubtedly caused. I instead was met with hostility, because how dare I accuse them of making a mistake, right? They then tried their hand at the blame game, saying that it must have been the tow truck driver who did it. No, you did.

Forget the ridiculously absurd mark up on parts I was charged, or the 3 day wait on fixing the vehicle, but just the outright abhorrent way these people treat paying customers is more than enough reason to take your business elsewhere!
