I can’t say enough about how great James and the whole experience are! It doesn’t matter if you’ve never painted in your life, it doesn’t matter if you’re only here for the history, it doesn’t matter if you HATE paint and sip classes- you will enjoy yourself! James curates such a special space and a great environment where you feel open to expressing yourself and trying something new. The bar is a great plus (and so is the dog!) but honestly, it’s just a really lovely way to spend time with people you enjoy.

We booked a class for my mom's birthday, could not have been more pleased! Our group contained a veterinarian, a bar manager, a highschool student, and a professional artist, and there was truly something for all of us to enjoy. Little Guns ( the teeny Chihuahua) was a welcome friend, the drinks were top notch, and the art experience was both educational and entertaining. Highly recommend ?

SUCH a fun experience. Learning about art history, full painting supplies, complimentary bar, fun music, and lively social environment, it's an amazing value for what you're spending!! James was so knowledgeable, accommodating, patient and just a funny and effervescent person to be around. The vibes could NOT have been better. Perfect for a night out with the gals, family or a date! Thanks so much for a perfect way to spend a Saturday night, can't wait to sign up again! (photo are of the Keith Haring class i went too and a glass of wine James spiced up with some edible glitter when he found out i was fan of adding sparkle to everything! Such a thoughtful and creative touch?)

My friends and I had a blast at Not Your Average "Paint and Sip"!! The name also is a big giveaway that it is, indeed, not your average painting class! It's so much more! James does an excellent job of making everyone feel comfortable and making sure we know we're going to have fun!
Unlike other painting classes I've attended, not everyone is painting the same thing! James focuses on a new artist each month - he tells you about that artist's history, what sort of background they have that led to influence the type of art they produced, and their level of success within the art community.
Once everyone has a good idea of the artist's background, then James orients you to the room, your supplies, and various print-outs of the artist's works so you can choose which piece to use as your inspiration. I LOVED this approach! It really allowed everyone to paint what they were feeling and to make adjustments to the paintings as we were inspired!
Our class's artist was Bob Ross and we all had a great time letting ourselves be inspired!

I need more stars. This is a great small group or date night activity. James will help you have a great night, learn about art, discover or develop your inner artist, make you a great drink, and help you create a decent-to-great piece of art to take home. I was visiting from Los Angeles and participated in one of the Artist of the Month Friday classes. I love that the concept is making art in the style of the featured artist rather than everyone copying the same tropical sunset or llama portrait. James knows how to help you set expectations and edit in a way that is not condescending and instills confidence in your process.

This was such a unique experience and a beautiful night that will live on in my memory for a long time. This class had the perfect ambiance! James did a great job of balancing friendliness and humor—I felt like I was in class with a bunch of friends. ? Not only did I learn so much, but James was also so kind and gentle when giving guidance on our paintings (all while never letting our drinks get empty). His playlist was also perfection. I HIGHLY recommend supporting a local business and attending a class that clearly has so much heart, soul, and care put into it. Thank you James! I'll be bringing all of my friends back. ?

Don’t walk.. RUN to a class with James at Not Your Average Paint and Sip. James is very welcoming, personable, attentive, and genuine. You can tell he loves what he does. His studio is intimate in the best way possible. Small group setting, so you can actually talk and joke with your neighbors. If you’re lucky, you may even get some cuddles from his pup, Guns. It’s an overall VIBE! Highly recommend and I will be back!
