This studio is unethically unorganized and uses bait and switch to con dancer’s families out of money. They change schedules frequently and expect all dancers to acquiesce. Mandatory dance workshops are announced with less than a months notice on weekends and are required for both competition and recreational students. These short sessions are very pricey and not disclosed when joining the studio for lessons.

The straw that broke the camels back was the studio announcing summer hours a month before summer sessions - the minimum cancellation time to not be charged, but then one day before classes began completely changing the whole schedule. My seven year old went from a 6-6:30pm class to an 8-8:30pm class on a different night. When I asked the owner to cancel us for the summer and let us know times for the fall when they became available she said she would cancel us but could refund nothing because of the one month cancellation policy. This is unethical to bait someone into signing up for one thing, then providing no recourse when that is no longer an option. Do not pick this studio.

I debated posting this review for fear I was being petty, but frankly I believe people need to be forewarned.

My child went here for 2 years, and we originally placed her here because the organization claims to be Christian, but about the only Christian thing I saw there were the weekly Bible verses the children were expected to learn.

My child struggled to learn the basic moves and stay focused, and where I expected that the instructor would take time to get her focused and learning the moves, I noticed more and more that she was being passed by. The students who were already succeeding were given even more attention and time because, frankly, this studio seems most concerned about winning, not about building character, skills, or teamwork.

My child was set to perform within a few weeks and then COVID hit, closing the facility that had been rented. One would think that we would get a refund for that, but instead Nu Revolution recouped their losses by taking those refunds for anyone who had not paid their monthly tuition yet; mind you, they did not HAVE any in-house classes that month, but had offered a small handful of Zoom classes that my child didn't even participate in.

For one performance piece we had to pay for custom dance costumes, that were supposed to match the measurements they took ahead of time. Almost none of the costumes fit any of the dancers, and the owner recommended a seamstress that she personally had used for years, she said. Because the performance was coming up soon, she greatly "suggested" that we pay the additional rush fee to get them resized. No apologies or refunds were ever given, quite the contrary. There were multiple dance moms who simply didn't have the money for a tailor, for costumes that should have already fit perfectly, and they were highly stressed.

Repeatedly, we tried to address these issues, but the owner/main instructor claimed she had received no correspondence from us, even though multiple posts had been deleted from their Facebook page, and none of my emails were responded to. Also, despite repeatedly giving them our email addresses, we did not receive the informational emails from them until we had another dance mom start forwarding them to us.

The entire time we took her there, we felt unwanted, estranged, and like our daughter was just a paycheck to them. There are other dance studios in Richmond, at an affordable price. A quick Google search may save you money and a headache.

Red flags from the beginning and should have listened to my gut. Price gouged “costume” that consisted of a tshirt and dance shorts (charged $86 when the products are listed on the dance stores site as $15 and a plain tshirt with a saying that would not make up the remaining balance) and communications consist of notes on doors the night of classes canceling and not giving any heads up about other things needing purchased (ex: the “costume” paperwork was thrust into our hands a week before they were due and no measurements taken- my daughter has sensory issues with too tight pants/shorts and I purposely put a larger size but still didn’t get that size and owner said SOL, you can try ordering them in a bigger size but I can’t do anything for you when it was their mistake per the sizing chart provided by the shorts manufacture).

The main thing was how the owner responds to questions or concerns regarding these types of issues. The owner gets defensive and rude while either completely disregarding the question or vaguely answering with a non-answer. The owner told me to “go to another dance studio” if I didn’t like the pricing of the “costume” when I asked how they were that expensive when she has the same brand tshirts for sale for under $20 in the studio and the shorts are listed from the Manufacturer for $15. Even with a normal markup and shipping, it would not equal near $86.

They also don’t have a set number of classes for your tuition and no publicly listed schedule to base it on (I.e. holidays and other pre planned closures).

PICK SOMEWHERE ELSE. You’ll regret wasting money and time on a place that never even introduced themselves the first week of classes.
